Underclass Awards Night is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, beginning at 7pm in the MHS Auditorium.
Mrs. Cecchi, our Underclass Awards Night Coordinator, has mailed out invitations to all award recipients, but students who are not receiving an award may come to support their classmates.

Meteorlogical Prognostication For Graduation
Okay- Graduation is scheduled for June 2 at 2 pm.
The question that I am going to be asked between now and then is regarding the location of graduation- outside or inside?
I use this site to help plan: Sunday's Weather Forecast.
Right now, it looks to be outside, with sunny, 84-degree weather forecast for Sunday, with a UV index of 10, so wear your hat and sunscreen!
Of course, this is New England. Remember, it was 37 degrees only four mornings ago. Saturday is expected to be in the mid-90's. Heck, it might snow.
On Saturday, I will make an announcement regarding the location for graduation initially via Twitter : @DougDias . I will also post the information on this Blog.
Finally, we urged graduates to car-pool to graduation (they can ride back with parents). Parking will be tight, I am told, and the few cars leaving at the same time will help the post-commencement celebrations with family and friends start sooner.

Senior Class Trip May 28
Dear Graduates and Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2013,
As we look ahead to senior activities next week, we have some important information to share regarding the trip to Hampton Beach on Tuesday, May 28. This trip is a school-sponsored event, but it has come to our attention that some students are considering driving to Hampton Beach. The safety of our students is always our first concern, and that is why we always provide transportation for school-sponsored field-trips. In keeping with this, all students participating at Hampton Beach are required to arrive and leave via school-sponsored transportation. We ask that parents support us in keeping students safe at this event.
Students who skip school to travel to Hampton Beach on that day will not be allowed to join the group and will face consequences for insubordination as defined in the Student Handbook. Simply stated, we want you to join us in a manner that provides the greatest safety and fun.
If you have any further concerns or questions, please contact Mr. Rubin, Dean of Student Activities, or Ms. Aigler and Ms. Ryan, Senior Class Advisors. Students should be at Medway High at 8:00 am on May 28. Please return your permission slip to your advisor to ensure we have enough buses and chaperones for the trip!

Perceived Self Image
This Friday students will be attending a unique assembly on body image. The presentations are unique, as boys and girls will have a separate assemblies to recognize to address the ways that society and advertisers project that young adults have certain body type, and this creates pressures for too many to try to make this image a reality through the ways they dress, unhealthy dieting, or excessive exercise.
The presentation was created and will be presented almost entirely by our own students, and highlights our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Tolerance.
The video, below, does not connect directly to the presentations, but I found it a fascinating study of how women perceive their own looks as compared how a stranger perceives it.

Commencement Photographs
We are happy to inform you that the personalized web address for Medway High School Graduates to pre-register, order and view their images when available can be accessed by clicking here: Photos
Students and parents may register any time prior to graduation to place their orders. If they choose this option they will receive special pricing and discounts! If we have received email addresses from the school as part of the senior data we were provided earlier in the school year we will use those email addresses for the notifications, although students and parents can also register any anytime and indicate an alternate email address for those notifications should they choose.
Families can order using the proof sheets that are mailed home, or by using the online option that is provided to them via email once the proofs are available for viewing. There are a series of email notifications sent to all graduates alerting them that their images are available, once they order they are removed from the email notification process. They are also provided with a customer service email address and phone number to call in the event that they have ordering questions. Regardless of which link the customer uses from the mailer or email, the graduate will be able to search for and locate their event to place their orders.

Click here to view a sample of the Final Examination Reschedule/Deferral Permission Form. Parents should call or email Mr. Rubin (mrubin@medway.k12.ma.us), Mrs. Pearl (dpearl@medway.k12.ma.us), or Dr. Dias (ddias@medway.k12.ma.us) seeking permission to reschedule their final exam. Teachers are not allowed to schedule retake times without administrator approval.
Once approved, students will be given the Final Examination Reschedule/Deferral Permission Form (on special paper) and have teachers indicate if they are deferring or rescheduling their exam. Teachers may defer their exam to the summer to maintain test security or if they may not have the exam ready prior to the student's absence. If a teacher defer the final exam, they will provide the main office with a copy of the test for administration over the summer. The student should call us to schedule a day and time to take the test.
Once the form is completed by teachers, it must be signed by the student and parent, and returned to the main office, and a copy provided to the student and guidance counselor.
If a student does not have a scheduled exam (i.e. Directed Study), they do not have to attend. But, if they are present in the building they will be expected to report to their scheduled room/assignment.

Thank You Medway Secondary Home & School Association!
I would like to formally thank the Medway Secondary Home & School Association (MSH&S) for providing a teacher luncheon yesterday in support of Teacher Appreciation Day.
On most days, teacher's have only 20 minutes to eat lunch, and the delicious food and raffle prizes, even in such a short time, was appreciated by all, including myself, and created smiles and words of thanks from every teacher who attended.
MSH&S is a very supportive partner for the High School and Middle School, providing awards, gifts, and support for students in both.
If your are able, I urge you to support the organization in any way you can. For more information, please visit their web site, which can be found here.
Again, thank you to the parents that provided food and small gifts, as well as those who helped coordinate, serve, and clean up afterwards. While teachers were only able to attend for a short time, it was very much appreciated.

As you may know, we have implemented the Student Ambassador Program (see earlier posting).
Here is an update to help parents, and our Ambassadors as we begin:
Since our return from April vacation, Medway High School has introduced the Student Ambassador Program to better support visitors to our school and increase school pride, provide an opportunity for real responsibility (in alignment with our Core Values) and help involve students in operating our school. Structurally, this program consists of two students located at a desk in the MHS Main Foyer throughout the school day to assist all visitors as they enter.
As a result of the Program, there will be some procedural changes in order to allow the Student Ambassador Program to work.
Parents dropping off materials (e.g. lunches, books, papers, etc) can leave items with the Student Ambassador’s table. As is currently the practice, we will attempt to deliver the item. If you let your child know that you have brought it to the school, please let them know it is at the Ambassador Desk. If you are dropping off money or valuables, please check in at the Ambassador Desk before bringing it to the Main Office.
Parents attending meetings should check in at the Ambassador Desk prior to going to the Main Office.
Some things will remain the same, however: Parent's or visitors attending meetings will still check in through the Main Office and obtain a visitor’s pass after checking in at the Ambassador Desk.
Please know that Student Ambassadors are not allowed to let visitors into the building. This responsibility remains with the Main Office Staff.
