Parent Portal Access Issues

If you are unable to access parent portal, email parentemail@medway.k12.ma.us for assistance.

2013-2014 Schedule Change Requests

The Parent Portal will be opened on August 16, 2013.

Last spring, we were explicit in setting the expectation with parents and students that there will be no changes to schedules once they are complete. The only exceptions considered will be for errors, omissions, or to adjust courses do to completion of summer school courses. If you believe there is an error in the schedule, please use our Course Change Request Form, which can be accessed after reading the paragraphs, below.

The link below is to be completed by Medway High School students who wish to meet or talk with their counselor and discuss changes to their schedule for the coming school year. This form will be used to allow counselors to properly address all concerns in a timely manner.

Students and Parents should NOT call their counselor for an appointment to discuss a schedule change. They will contact YOU, either by phone, email or appointment. Some responses may not take place until after the first day of school, but ALL requests submitted through this form will be given a response as soon as possible.

UNTIL PROVIDED WITH A NEW SCHEDULE OR UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM YOUR COUNSELOR, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS FOLLOW THEIR SCHEDULE AS PROVIDED ON THE PORTAL!

Please know that information provided on this form, while kept confidential, may be shared with educational leaders and teachers as a means to help us better understand how to provide the best education for our students.

Letter to the Class of 2013

To:       Member of the Class of 2013
From:  Mike Rubin, Dean of Academics and Activities
Re:       Graduation/Diplomas
Date:   August 6, 2013

Believe it or not, you have not even set foot in school for the start of senior year, and it’s already time to think about graduation!

The link below will direct you to an online form, where you will specify the following:
-        name as you wish it to appear on your diploma;
-        approximate height;
-        approximate weight;
-        gender.

The form will be used for the ordering of our caps and gowns, as well as the printing of your diploma. The males will wear blue gowns and the females white at graduation, hence the specification of gender for our vendors.

The height and weight numbers are used specifically for the sizing of the gown; any male with at least a 52” chest will need an XL gown, as will any female with a chest of at least 40”. All graduation caps come elasticized (one size fits all).

For your name, please type your name accurately in one of the following formats:
            Jessica Smith
            Jessica N. Smith
            Jessica Nicole Smith*
*The use of all three names is most commonly used.  The reading of all three names at graduation gives you a few extra moments of fame when you most deserve it.

Gentlemen, remember to include Jr. or II, III, etc. – that which legally distinguishes you from your father or other family members.

Thank you in advance for your careful planning and attention to detail, and I look forward to working with your class in planning a memorable senior year and graduation.

Michael Rubin
Dean of Academics and Activities

A Message From Our School Nurse

I am sad to share that Mrs. Denise Butler, our school nurse for many years, has left to pursue other avenues in her profession. She will be missed. Fortunately, we did not have to look far to find a well qualified and experienced replacement, as Mrs. Christine Babitz has moved from the Burke/Memorial School to MHS. She has asked that this letter be sent to all MHS students and parents:

Dear parents and students,
I’d like to introduce myself as the new school nurse at Medway High School.  I’ve been a nurse for 22 years and have worked in many settings including Beth Israel Hospital, EverCare, Norwood Hospital’s ER and Burke Memorial School.

Below I have posted some summer hours.  Please take the time to stop by.  I look forward to meeting and talking with you.

For students and families with specific health needs, this is a good time to discuss health care plans and to bring in medications needed for the school year.  Remember that all medications, even “over the counter” medications, need an updated doctor’s order.  Orders can be faxed to 508-533-3246. If the times stated do not work for you, please call or email, we can arrange another time.
To all freshman and 9th grade parents: An updated physical exam is mandatory for the start of school.  I can accept any physical dated from August 2012 to the present day.

Thanks
Christine Babicz RN, MSN
MHS School Nurse

Student Schedules

Technology can be wonderful, but can also be a problem.

With approximately 2400 individuals (students and their parents/guardians) eagerly awaiting their 2013-14 academic schedule, it comes as no surprise that a momentary glitch, which allowed the parent portal to become 'live' before schedules are ready for distribution, resulting in a flurry of web activity. The glitch was quickly corrected, but not before a handful of students logged in and saw their schedule. It may have been complete. It may not be complete. We are still making adjustments, and will continue to do so prior to the  parent portal activation, scheduled for August 16th.

I think the weather has something to do with the flurry of parent portal activity. I am willing to guess that people would not be checking the parent portal if it were a beautiful, sunny day.
