Parents click on the “Register” tab and fill in the registration form to create an account. Once parents have successfully registered, they can login to the system and then must register their students by name.
To Book Appointments
Select Teachers
Parents can schedule appointments for any student that they have added to the system by clicking on the “Appointments” button beside the student’s name. The parent is then taken to a page where they can select the teachers with whom they wish to meet. Multiple teachers can be selected by using the “Ctrl” key on a PC keyboard or the “Command” key on a Macintosh keyboard.
Teacher Appointment Calendars
Parents are shown the calendars of the selected teachers. It also shows them appointment times that are unavailable for booking. Parents can select appointment times by simply clicking the check boxes or by clicking in the time block beside the check box. Once an appointment time has been selected it will change to green. If no appointments are available, click on the call back button at the top of the list.
It is not possible for parents to select more than one appointment at the same time or to select more than one appointment with the same teacher. Javascript enabled browsers are required for validation on the screen.
Appointments Booked Successfully
Once the appointments are booked the screen will display the list of appointments for the student. When the parent clicks on the “Return to Home Page” button, they will return to the home page with their students and their appointments listed. They can book additional appointments, or they can book appointments for another student.
Parents with More Than One Student
If a parent has more than one student at the school, the teacher appointment calendars will have an additional feature displayed when the second (or third, etc.) student bookings are made. If a sibling has an appointment booked, the student’s name will be displayed for a parent, thus making it easier to book adjacent appointments.
Printing Parent Appointment Schedule
From the home page it is possible for you to generate a PDF document with the list of your appointments. By clicking on the “Print Appointments” button a window will pop-up asking the parent what they wish to do with the document.. In Internet Explorer, it is recommended that people click the “Save” button, save the file and then click “Open” to view the file. IE sometimes has a problem downloading and opening PDF documents that are generated from web sites.
Click “Open” after the download is complete to view the PDF.

The generated PDF will list the appointment times, the student and the teacher with whom the appointment is booked.
I am assuming that these appointment scheduling features are only for if we wish additional conference time outside of the standard 5 or so minutes that we receive on parent-teacher night? (Basing this on the fact that your blog says October 24th, but the School Appt. sites says it starts on the 25th.) If we do not wish to discuss anything further, then there is no need to register, correct? Or is this something completely new, where rather than standing in line, we are supposed to schedule meetings?

DeleteThis is completely new, and is replacing the 'fishbowl' model of waiting in line and watching other conferences, which I believe violates confidentiality and wastes parents time.
I created this when we were still debating the final date. If you scheduled appointments, please check to make sure they remain after I changed the date to the 24th.
'Call-back' adds your contact information to a list that teachers receive indicating that you wish them to call you because you cannot get an appointment or are unable to attend Conference Night.
DeleteI went ahead and registered and realized that this is for the actual parent conference night and not for additional time with teachers. (I'm still not sure about the discrepancy in the dates, since I was unable to find a place on the high school website to confirm one or the other...very quick search though!) I have my daughter all signed up. I'm curious to see if this goes better than the standing in line events of the past.
ReplyDeleteI created this when we were still debating the final date. If you scheduled appointments, please check to make sure they remain after I changed the date to the 24th. I typically schedule night events for staff on a Thursday, but that was not possible, due to multiple conflicts.

ReplyDeleteOkay, so here is an interesting twist. I just got an email reminder for the upcoming Parent Teacher night and the times I am meeting with teachers that are listed in the email do not coincide with the times I printed out and had stuck to my fridge on October 3. Some of my time slots have shifted and one of the teachers is completely dropped from my list, which I assume means that I won't be able to meet with that person??? These times are confirmed when I visit the actual scheduling site...one teacher dropped and my other time slots moved around. I am running with the assumption that the "new" schedule is the one I am now to follow and that I just completely lost an interview time with one teacher (Pereira).

DeleteI guess I am late in scheduling my times. I was able to schedule one elective teacher for my son. But all the other course teachers were completely booked. I checked call back.
